I was thinking on the drive home about all the books I wanted to write in high school. I still have the titles and abortive attempts saved somewhere, because I never get rid of anything I write, no matter how terrible. That said, I don't think I'll be going back to that terribly clichéd Holmes pastiche, to name just one.

Sitting here trying to work on Unlettered, and...it's not coming today. I've spent several hours staring at the screen going through various permutations of self-doubt, boredom, and panic and have just come to the conclusion that the problem isn't writer's block. 2. Deleted the link to Boston Marriage from my desktop shortcuts
3. Felt maudlin for about half an hour
4. Drank lots of coffee in lieu of something stronger
5. Moved The Librarians Unlettered back onto my desktop shortcuts

I have shingles.

The nice doctor at Urgent Care has loaded me down with antivirals and medication to prevent postherpetic neuralgia. He's pointed out that herpes zoster is uncommon in people my age and can indicate a depressed immune symptom. I really need to get more sleep. I've become familiar with that moment when I'm up late writing and everything turns futile, where that phrase that sounded perfect half an hour ago is hackneyed and that plot point on which the whole story hinges fails to make any kind of emotional or logical sense. Deadline at work yesterday, which, because I am terrible at time management, meant long hours for the last week and a half. I got out just after five today like a normal person, though, and was looking forward to getting some writing done this evening, but I am exhausted and in the sort of mood where everything I write seems pointless and silly.
